My paintings examine nature and explore composition. I work as a studio artist, developing compositions and ideas from many sources of reference. My work is accessible, calming, and at times meditative. With elements of magic realism and personal symbolism, I create images that are balanced and calm. Simplified, graphic, and studied, these paintings are inspired by sights from nature and everyday life. I build upon this inspiration to create new scenes that convey the balance of pattern and asymmetry found in nature.
I grew up in Huntsville, AL and graduated from the Savannah College of Art and Design in 2002 with a degree in Illustration. I moved to Minneapolis after graduating, and have enjoyed the opportunity to work as an artist here in Minnesota. I am proud to have my work in many venues around the twin cities—shops, galleries, in public art, and in clinical settings, as well as private collections. You can often find my work in my studio at the Northrup King Building (#423), during the building’s open studio events (First Thursdays of each month, as well as Art-a-Whirl in May and Art Attack in November). I also work as a freelance illustrator and graphic designer. I live in the Longfellow neighborhood of Minneapolis with my husband and our two children.
